The original firm with the name of Kohnstam was MOSKS KOHNSTAM & CO., which was founded by my grandfather in 1879-His name was Moses, hence the trade mark MOKO.The English Branch of this Company was formed in 1891 and became JOHN KOHNSTAM LIMITED in 1923 (John Kohnstam being ray father).John Kohnstam Limited, however, still kept the trade mark MOKO.It was John Kohnstam Limited who, in April, 1950, registered the word Matchbox and commenced the Matchbox series, hence the early boxes had the double trade mark Moko-Lesney.
In 1959 Lesney Products made an offer to buy the whole of the issued capital of John Kohnstam Limited and this offer was accepted, and thereafter John Kohnstam Limited became the property of Lesney Products.
Richard Kohnstam started in business under his own name in
1960.
Yours faithfully,p.p. RICHARD KOHNSTAM LIMITED -/- D.BINGER
